There are three research centers supporting the design and development of Georgia Tech's Solar Decathlon house.
Advanced Wood Products Laboratory
The AWPL Lab utilizes computer-aided designing and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to drive automated machining and manufacturing equipment. The Lab has been used to develop and manufacture various components of Georgia Tech's Solar Decathlon House.
Center for Assistive Technology + Environmental Access
The Center for Assistive Technology & Environmental Access (CATEA) develops, evaluates, and utilizes assistive technologies to improve performance of activities of daily living or work. CATEA has helped the team apply "universal design" principles to the house.
University Center of Excellence in Photovoltaics
UCEP fabricates record high efficiency solar cells, provides training, and enriches the educational experience of students in this field. UCEP faculty and students have led the team in decisions related to energy efficiency, solar power, and PV systems design.
